Rise Above's 2K Birthday Climbathon!
November 2024 Update: Thank you to everyone who attended 2K Birthday, or sponsored a climber! We not only blew our goal of 2k out of the water by 1 whole extra vertical kilometer - we also raised just over $2000! This will allow us to continue throughout 2025, and expand our programming with some exciting new events!
We would like to thank these event sponsors for their generous donations:
Rise Above Adaptive Climbing is turning 2! To celebrate, we're challenging participants to climb a collective total of 2 vertical kilometers...in one hour! This isn't your average climbathon though - we've added a few twists to really keep things exciting!
Climb as much as you can, either with your own climbing partner, or with a Rise Above volunteer belayer! We'll have non-alcoholic drinks and snacks available, door prizes, and one grand prize for the person who raises the most money!
100% of the money raised via pledges goes to Rise Above to support accessible, affordable climbing for people with disabilities. This is an opportunity for Junction climbers to challenge themselves, connect over a common goal, and feel good knowing they've given back to the climbing community.
Climb, climb, climb!
We did the math, and each route is just about 10m. If we reach 25 participants, that's 8 routes per person!
No repeating grades!
Everyone starts at 5.4 (New to climbing and not sure what that means? We’ll explain it at the event!) and moves on to the next highest grade after the current one has been climbed bottom to top! You’re allowed to fall, but if you’re unable to finish a grade, you’ll have to start again after you pick a challenge from our mystery hat!
What’s the Mystery Hat?
Reach in the hat and pick a challenge! You might have to climb with your feet tied together, blindfolded, or with an oven mitt on one hand! Don't like what you've picked? You can choose again - for a $2 donation! Other participants will also be able to donate $2 to "Nope!" your choice and force you to go with the original!
Other Rules
- Share the Space! Junction will be open to the public. Don't monopolize routes! Give members priority.
- Top rope or lead only, do not use autobelays or the boulder (we want to keep them available for non-participants.)
- Take turns! If you have a climbing partner, swap in between each route to give everyone a fair chance to climb and to rest. We don't want injuries!
Registration and Pledges
We encourage each participant to raise at least $80 - that's $10 per route completed! Pledges can be collected in cash, or e-transferred to riseaboveadaptiveclimbing@gmail.com (please only send a transfer once you have collected the total amount from your donors!)
Registration closes October 4th at 10:30pm.
Let's get climbing, to keep it accessible to everyone!
